Lou Posner: The Interface Between Life and Art
Posner painted Well Into March from the front yard of the couple’s home at 521 W. 4th Street in
Bloomington, Indiana. The view looks cattycorner toward the intersection of 4th and Jackson Streets.
Although the scene depicts a specific Bloomington neighborhood, Posner noticed that viewers repeatedly responded as though they recognized it. As he explained, “It looks familiar to them because it is universal.” The modest houses, garages, bare trees and lingering signs of winter evoke a neighborhood that seems both particular and familiar.
